assalamualaikum and hello :)
Finally, got a chance to teach my Form 4 brothers and sisters at
SMK Seri Serdang. As I had mention before, in my previous post,I’ll be
teaching two subjects that is Biology and History. But till this week, I
haven’t had a chance to enter my History class due to certain reasons but I
already have two Biology class with the kids. Hopefully, I can get to teach
them history soon..
So, my mission as a tutor is to help the student to understand
more regarding their form 4 syllabus... During our first meeting with the
teachers, she had listed out certain topics that we should consider to teach
such as cells structure, respiration and etc. and we only need to guide the
students to understand more about the processes and structures involve.
It would be a lie if I said that I'm fully prepared for my
first tutor class. As far as I remember, my experience as a tutor were limited
to my friends and my juniors at SEMASHUR; to teach the whole class as a teacher is new experience for me. So, I pray a lot hoping that I will do well.
(Need to make a good first impression for the kids)
There are two classes opened for Biology class, one class was at
8-10 am and another class was at 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. Each class will be a 2
hours session and the numbers of students for each class were different. For my
first class, there are total 18 students all together compared to my second
class which in total were 12 students all together and no boys.
The first one hour would be the ice breaking session between us, the
tutor with the students. So, I asked the student to introduce themselves one by
one and ask them to tell us their ambitions too so most of the
students to prefer to be an engineer or doctor. But when I asked, what kind of
engineer that you want to be...or if you want to be a doctor, what will you be
specialising in...they couldn't answer my question, maybe because they didn't research more about their dream jobs and what surprise me
that, one of their friends want to be a prime minister but before that he wants
to be a lawyer in Syariah. After giving some advices, comments and a quick story-telling, we start our tutoring
session.
The first activity was completing the crossword, just to test the students how
well they understand the topics. We tried to make things more interesting by
involving them throughout the teaching process and alhamdullilah they give cooperation
and make things easier.
That’s all I would like to share with you my dear
readers about my first experience being a tutor at SMK Seri Serdang.
